Mounting a TV looks simple in theory: find a wall, attach a bracket, hang the screen. In practice, most of the TV mounting call-outs we handle across Dubai come from mounts that were installed without accounting for the wall type, the weight of the TV, or the cable routing — and end up needing to be redone properly. Here's what actually matters.
Dubai homes typically fall into a few categories: solid concrete or block walls (common in older buildings and villas), drywall or gypsum partitions (common in newer apartments and offices), and occasionally curtain-wall or glass partition systems in commercial units. Each requires a different fixing method:
A fixed mount holds the TV flush and is fine for most bedrooms and living rooms viewed straight-on. A tilting mount allows angle adjustment, useful for TVs mounted slightly higher than eye level. A full-motion (articulating) mount lets you pull the screen out and swivel it, which is ideal for open-plan living areas, kitchens, or commercial spaces where the TV needs to be viewed from multiple angles. The mount's weight rating must exceed your TV's weight with a safety margin — never mount to the rating's exact limit.
The difference between a professional-looking installation and a messy one usually comes down to cable management. Options include in-wall cable channels (cleanest, but requires checking for electrical wiring or plumbing behind the wall first), surface-mounted cable raceways painted to match the wall, or a simple cable sleeve behind furniture. Any in-wall routing should only be done by someone experienced in identifying what else runs through that wall cavity.
As a general rule, the center of the screen should sit roughly at seated eye level for the main seating position — often lower than people expect. For a typical sofa setup, this usually places the TV center around 100-115cm from the floor, though this varies with ceiling height and room layout.
A poorly mounted TV is a real safety risk, particularly in homes with children. Warning signs of an unsafe mount include visible wall cracking around the bracket, a mount that flexes or shifts when touched, or brackets fixed only into plasterboard without hitting a stud or using rated hollow-wall anchors. If you're unsure whether an existing mount is safe, it's worth having it inspected rather than waiting for a problem.
